D.C. HAVA Plan
Shortly after the enactment of the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA), Public Law No. 107- 252, 116 Stat. 1666 (2002), DCBOE submitted a plan for implementing this landmark legislation’s requirements for improving the administration of elections in the United States. At the time of submission of that plan, the District of Columbia was already substantially in compliance with the new federal standards, thanks to the dedication and input of citizen advocates, past Board members, and past and present staff members. Over the years, DCBOE has, consistent with HAVA’s purposes, made significant advances to facilitate the ability of D.C. residents to vote.
